After breakfast at 09:00 hrs, meet your tour guide who will show you the highlights of Reykjavik, Iceland’s exciting capital city. Afterward, head west towards Borgarnes, where you will learn about Iceland’s earliest days at the Settlement Center. Continue to Borgarfjörður, known as the Saga Valley for its historical significance. You’ll have a chance to climb the Grábrók volcano crater and visit Deildartunguhver, Europe’s most powerful hot spring. Explore the Hraunfossar waterfalls, which flow from beneath a wide lava field, and visit Barnafoss, also known as the Children’s Falls. In the evening, attend a lecture about the Northern Lights. After dinner, step into the hotel garden in search of the Northern Lights and enjoy a hot cup of chocolate or tea. Overnight stay in Borgarnes.
After breakfast, proceed to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, often called “the peninsula of the snowy mountain.” This peninsula offers a microcosm of Iceland’s diverse landscapes. Visit the fishing village of Grundarfjörður, known for its impressive coastline and the famous mountain Kirkjufell. Explore Arnarstapi and Hellnar before descending into Vatnshellir cave, an underground lava tube beneath the Snæfellsjökull glacier. On the way back to Borgarnes, the guide will provide practical tips on photographing the Northern Lights as part of the Northern Lights Academy program. In the evening, search for the Northern Lights in the hotel garden and relax in the outdoor hot tubs. Overnight stay in Borgarnes.
Embark on a journey along the Hvalfjörður fjord and visit an Icelandic wool outlet store to see their craftsmanship. Continue to Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Travel the Golden Circle route, marveling at the Geysir geothermal fields and the Strokkur geyser’s eruptions. Take a stroll on the black lava beach and explore the bird cliffs at Reynisfjara in South Iceland. Spend two nights near Kirkjubæjarklaustur in the Vatnajökull National Park region, an ideal location for searching for the Northern Lights. Overnight stay in Kirkjubæjarklaustur.
Today’s program is focused on glaciers, ice, and icebergs. Travel to Jökulsárlón, a glacial lagoon filled with floating icebergs, and explore this incredible site. You may even spot seals swimming in the arctic waters. Visit the nearby Diamond Beach, where large icebergs wash ashore on the black sandy beach. In the afternoon, visit the tiny turf church at Hof and spend time at Europe’s largest national park, which features Iceland’s highest mountains and Europe’s largest glacier. In the evening, enjoy a film presentation about the Northern Lights as part of the Northern Lights Academy program. You have the option to join an Ice Cave Tour, which takes approximately 2.5 hours in total. The tour includes a 30-minute 4×4 drive from Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon and a 5-15 minute hike (one-way). Inside the ice cave, you’ll spend about one hour exploring this unique natural formation. Please note that good hiking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are necessary, as the ice caves can be wet. The minimum age for this tour is 10 years old. While the ice cave tour takes place, the rest of the group will continue with the official tour program, including a stop at Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, which is included for all participants.
